Spring Weekends Near Mystic: Gardens, Coastal Walks & Quiet Getaways

POV: You’re over winter… but winter isn’t quite over you.

Around this time of year at Stonecroft Inn, we’re officially entering our annual “staring at the snow and manifesting tulips” era.

The good news? Spring along the Connecticut shoreline arrives slowly but beautifully. And when it does, the Mystic area becomes one of the most peaceful places in New England for a relaxing weekend getaway.

Better yet, Stonecroft makes the perfect home base for exploring it all.

Waiting for the Gardens to Wake Up

This will be our first full spring on the property, and we’re a little too excited to see what happens when the gardens wake up.

Stonecroft has long been known for its beautiful grounds, and as the season changes you’ll start to see hints of it everywhere:

  • The koi pond coming back to life

  • The gardens slowly filling with early color

  • Outdoor seating becoming the perfect spot for morning coffee

  • Warmer afternoons that practically demand a walk around the property

It’s that magical moment between seasons - cool enough for cozy evenings, warm enough to wander outside.

Coastal Walks Near Mystic

Spring is also one of the best times to explore the Mystic area before summer crowds arrive.

Within a short drive from the inn, you’ll find some of the most scenic coastal walks in Connecticut.

Bluff Point State Park – Groton
A favorite for biking, walking, and soaking in wide-open shoreline views of Long Island Sound.

Mystic River Walk
Take a slow stroll through historic downtown Mystic and watch boats pass beneath the famous drawbridge.

Napatree Point – Watch Hill
Just over the Rhode Island border, this peaceful coastal preserve offers a long sandy stretch that feels like your own private beach.

Fresh ocean air by day… then back to Stonecroft for a quiet evening.

Not a bad plan.

Celebrate the Season (and Maybe the Parade)

Before the tulips arrive, though… there are bagpipes.

Each March, Mystic hosts the Mystic Irish Parade, one of the biggest St. Patrick’s celebrations in New England. Nearly 30,000 people fill the streets for music, dancers, floats, and plenty of Irish cheer.

And here’s the best part of staying at Stonecroft:

You can enjoy the energy downtown… then escape back here where things are peaceful, cozy, and significantly less chaotic.

Fireplace > parade crowds.
Just saying.

Celebrate hard. Sleep harder.

Cozy Nights & Easy Spring Mornings

One of the best parts about a spring stay at Stonecroft is the rhythm of it all.

Explore Mystic. Walk along the water. Discover a new favorite restaurant.

Then come back to the quiet of the inn, where evenings are perfect for relaxing and mornings feel unhurried.

It’s the kind of getaway that doesn’t need a packed itinerary to feel special.

Perfect for April Getaways

Spring weekends at Stonecroft are ideal for:

  • Anniversary trips

  • Birthday getaways

  • Romantic weekends near Mystic

  • Or a spontaneous “we just needed a break” escape

Sometimes the best trips are the ones you didn’t overthink.

A cozy room, fresh coastal air, and the promise of gardens waking up outside your window.
